Partners & Initiatives

Mine The Gap works with companies, organizations, and governments to launch initiatives that address old problems in new ways. Backed by research and focused on innovation, we are passionate about launching new projects, rejuvenating seasoned initiatives, and inspiring the edge of creativity to advance women leaders and expand gender equality efforts globally.

In the fall of 2023, The Hewitt School launched a new curriculum designed by Mine The Gap for middle school teachers that engaged them in creating classroom environments where girls can explore and develop leadership authentic to them. The curriculum, The Girl Advantage, is part of Hewitt’s Center for Gender and Ethical Leadership in Society, a research-based effort launched in partnership with Mine The Gap and academic partners in 2022 to close the achievement gap between girls education and their leadership in the workforce.

The California Partners Project Women on Boards Initiative, run by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s wife and First Partner, is harnessing SB826, a first-in-the-nation law passed on 2018 requiring publicly-traded companies with California headquarters, to have at least one woman on their board of directors to help California companies exceed the benchmarks of the legislation and lead the country in embracing diversity for better business. Mine The Gap collaborated with the California Partners Project from its inception on strategy and to develop the state’s first comprehensive data analysis of the gaps and needs for the state’s public companies to meet the law. All Our Talent: Women on Boards & Commissions is a new Chamber Foundation-led initiative that takes stock of the responsibilities as a San Diego region’s corporate, nonprofit, and government-appointed chamber is ensuring our board leadership from a gender-diversity perspective. Using publicly available data, studies, and interviews with local and regional experts, Mine The Gap gave vision to the initiative and launched it by developing a report that lays out the landscape of board representation in the region and helps position it for a more competitive and better workforce.

On March 8, 2017, the California Leadership Collaborative launched its inaugural Innovation Team meeting in partnership with PG&E and Facebook.  Mine The Gap brought together high-level women in business and politics in three convenings across the state to innovate new ways to advance women policy makers in California and build comradery across sectors among women leaders.

At the Innovation Team event in San Francisco we presented new, cutting edge research and provided key areas where innovation could more quickly advance women in political leadership positions in the state.

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) in collaboration with the Academy for Gender Parity arranged a series of events focusing on the future of women’s political participation across Asia in order to inspire and equip the next generation of female leaders with the skills necessary to succeed in politics.

Mine The Gap conducted a weekend training that brought together women from across Japan to teach nuts and bolts skills to run for elected office.  The two-day session aimed to sharpen participants’ skills through a hands-on approach featuring activities such as condensing a political platform into a catchy one-minute “elevator pitch” to running a full-fledged mock campaign. Kristin and Jessica shared their experiences as well as their insights about the upswing of women running for political office in America and how the #MeToo movement has impacted the conversation around women’s rights in the United States and globally in a SPF public panel discussion.
